Rhinoplasty - Nymphenburger Praxis für Plastische & Ästhetische Chirurgie

The nose is the center of the face and gives it its individual character. Some people, however, are dissatisfied with their noses believing they are too big, too crooked, too wide, or puckered. Even if the nose does not correspond to the personal beauty ideal, it does shape the face.

Achieve a harmonious, clear profile through a nose operation

With corrective nose surgery (also called a rhinoplasty) in our practice in Munich, we want to help increase your self worth and give you a new lease of life. In some cases, the aesthetic aspect of rhinoplasty is also functional: for example, in the course of straightening the nose, we can also correct the nasal septum and thereby remedy your problems with breathing through the nose. People are commonly dissatisfied with the shape of their nose and want a change; so the rhinoplasty is one of the oldest operations in plastic and aesthetic surgery. We are therefore appropriately experienced in this field.

Detailed advice on nose surgery

We would be happy to advise you in a personal discussion on the possibilities, methods and cost framework of a nose correction. It is very important to us to know your individual wishes and expectations in order to choose the suitable procedure for an optimal result.

Dr. von Spiegel is delighted to be here for you!

General information on nose correction

Surgery time: 60-120 min.
Anesthesia: local anesthesia with twilight sleep or general anesthesia
Duration of clinic stay: outpatient 6-8 hours or inpatient 1 night at the clinic
Sociability following surgery: after about 2 weeks
Ability to work: after about 1 week
Sports: after 2 weeks; Contact sports after 8 weeks
Pain: low
Stitch removal: after 7 days

If the nose is too big, crooked or flat, or if the nostrils are too large, the nose is often perceived as a foreign object on one's own face and therefore very dominant.

Aesthetic or functional nose surgery

In addition to the aesthetic aspects, a nasal respiratory obstruction can be grounds for a nose correction. As the shape and size of the nose becomes a burden, we as your plastic surgeons can remedy this with a rhinoplasty and possibly, after a long period of suffering, help to make you finally happy with your reflection. Functional corrections, such as nasal septum, nasal concha and paranasal sinus surgery can also be performed during the procedure.

Surgery on the nose, despite its long tradition, remains very demanding and a challenge for any plastic surgeon. For this reason we prepare ourselves very conscientiously for every procedure at our clinic in Munich, so that you can always feel safe and secure in our hands.

Analysis of the anatomy of the nose before a rhinoplastyAs part of your first trip to our Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Munich, Nymphenburg, you tell us what bothers you in terms of aesthetics and function of your nose. We will analyze the anatomy of your nose in detail in order to respond to your needs and accurately assess how we can help you.  Photographic documentation goes without saying. Together we will work out what your dream nose should look like after the nose correction.

With effect from 01.04.2006, the publication of before-and-after images on the website is prohibited by law. Of course, during your presentation, we can show you before-and-after images of nasal surgeries.

In order not to unnecessarily increase the risk of postoperative bleeding, the use of aspirin should be avoided in the two weeks prior to the operation. The consumption of alcohol and nicotine should also be reduced to a minimum.

3-D simulation software for planning and simulating surgical results has been improving in recent times. In our Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Nymphenburg, Munich, we work with Crisalix. With Crisalix 3-D Simulation, you can try different nose shapes before choosing your dream nose. This way, uncertainties can be eliminated and you can get an idea of what to expect.

Depending on your requirements once examined, your nose correction will take place under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia under twilight anesthesia, as an outpatient with us at the Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Munich, or with a night at the highly specialized Dritter Orden Clinic.

Before the operation, there will be an in-depth interview with our experienced anesthetist. After a final preliminary discussion with us as your plastic surgeons, the markers and incisions that are important for rhinoplasty are drawn and the anesthesia is administered according to the plan worked out with you and the anethesiologist.

The operating suite is then sterilized according to hygiene protocol and covered. The upper body is positioned slightly elevated. The local anesthetic is then administered to the area around the nose. You will then lose consciousness due to the twilight sleep. To prevent bleeding, you will also be given adrenaline during anesthesia. For rhinoplasty, the skin and mucous membranes are temporarily detached from the nasal skeleton.

After performing the surgical procedures, such as cusp removal, septal correction, nasal wing corrections and modeling of the cartilage, etc., the mucous membranes are re-applied precisely and stitched with fine stitches. If necessary, we apply a silicone splint to the septum and support the new nose with a nasal plaster.

After the operation you  will need some time to rest. To ensure your nose remains stabilized, you will be wearing a gypsum splint for about two weeks which will hold it in place. As a rule, no pain occurs during this time, and your nose will heal without scarring and then look radiant. Sporting activities should be avoided for about six weeks.

In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, this surgery is associated with a very low rate of complications but high levels of satisfaction. Despite the greatest care and the most careful surgical procedures, complications may occur as in any operation, during or after surgery.

In rare cases, the tear duct can be injured during the operation. In the case of a correction of the lateral nasal walls, hematomas of the eyes, so-called bilateral black eye, frequently occur, but these retreat themselves in the subsequent weeks. In very rare cases wound infection may occur after surgery, a risk that is minimized by the administration of antibiotics and drainage. Nasal bleeding is very rare and usually harmless.

After the operation, a numbness of the nose tip may remain for months after the procedure. This is very rare and generally not permanent.

Very often after a nose operation, swelling occurs and it can take a longer time to reach its final shape. Often, the new nose shape can only be assessed after one year.

Irregularities on the bridge of the nose only become apparent after swelling fully subsides and may need to be corrected.

After nasal surgery patients are sometimes disappointed with the result; however, this is very rare in our Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Medicine in Nymphenburg, Munich. In this case, a correction may be necessary.
