Liposuction - Nymphenburger Praxis für Plastische & Ästhetische Chirurgie

What is liposuction? Liposuction is a standard procedure at our Clinic in Munich. Few people can say they have not stood in front of the mirror and been angry about one problem zone or another. Doing sport and dieting often don‘t help to lose weight in these areas.

If certain problem areas become too problematic and "erode" self-esteem, we can help you to get a great deal closer to your dream body: with a removal of the disturbing fat accumulation per liposuction.

Benefits of liposuction

  • This fat removal is lasting. Removed fat cells do not grow back.
  • Low pain - the operation is virtually painless.
  • Outpatient procedure - usually no hospitalization is required after the procedure.
  • High quality results - Liposuction is generally successful and leads to a very good result.

Achieve a harmonious slim silhouette through liposuction

In liposuction, we remove excess fatty tissue from the abdomen, buttocks, thighs or hips with the aid of cannulas over the smallest stitch incisions resulting in a harmonious, slim body contour.

We are happy to provide individual and detailed information in a personal consultation at our Clinic in Nymphenburg, Munich. Knowing your wishes and expectations for liposuction enables us to plan and discuss a procedure adapted to you.

Dr. von Spiegel is delighted to be here for you!

General information on liposuction

Surgery time: depending on the extent of the operation

Duration of clinic stay: outpatient 4-6 hours or inpatient 1 night in the clinic
Sociability following surgery: after 2-3 days
Ability to work: after 2-4 days
Sports: after 3-4 weeks
Pain: mild to moderate
Stitch removal after 4-6 days
Compression underwear: to be worn on the areas of extraction for 6 weeks

With liposuction, we can eliminate stubborn fat deposits in plastic surgery, which can not be reduced by diet or specific workouts. The best results are achieved, for example, in the treatment of so-called saddle bags, love handles and double chin among others. The premise of liposuction is that the skin over the subcutaneous fatty tissue is still firm and elastic.

Liposuction is not for the treatment of obesity

Treatment for obesity or general weight loss is not the goal of liposuction. On the contrary: the liposuction increases an existing skin surplus; Surgical removal of the excess tissue by a firming of the skin would then be better suited to achieve good results.

During your first consultation at our Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Nymphenburg Munich, you describe your wishes and goals for the procedure.

We will examine you in detail, present you with your options and develop a treatment plan together with you. To optimize the outcome, it is important to consistently wear compression garments over a period of four to six weeks after surgery. In our Clinic, we have a large selection of the appropriate compression underwear in stock. If necessary, we can also deliver other models on demand at short notice.

No specific preparation for the procedure is necessary on your part. However, you should avoid taking painkillers such as aspirin two weeks before surgery as this can increase the risk of rebleeding. The consumption of tobacco and alcohol should also be kept to a minimum.

As a rule, liposuction takes place on an outpatient basis at our Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in Nymphenburg, Munich. However, if the procedure involves further measures, inpatient admission to the highly specialized Dritter Ordern Clinic may also be necessary.

Before the operation, you will have a detailed conversation with our very experienced anesthetist.

Depending on the extent of the work, a full or partial anesthesia is planned. You will have a further discussions with us as your plastic surgeons. Last concerns are clarified and we mark the areas to be treated with you in a standing position. After administering the anesthesia, the area will be sterilised and covered in our operating room. 3-5 mm long incisions are made In inconspicuous places and the areas to be treated are filled with a so-called tumescent solution. In addition to isotonic saline and local anesthetic, this tumescent solution also contains adrenaline to prevent bleeding. After a sufficient exposure time of 5-10 minutes, the actual liposuction begins. The suction cannulas are inserted into the skin incisions. The tops of the canulas have holes where the fatty tissue is sucked in by a vacuum, removed and then transported via a hose system. During suction, the Plastic Surgeon will constantly palpate the area with his hand, taking care to create a natural and beautiful contour. The artful aspect of the work is not to remove as much fatty tissue as possible, but to create smooth and unobtrusive transitions.

The duration of the operation varies from 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the extent. At the end of the operation, the incisions are stitched and the compression garment is applied directly. This is necessary because otherwise liquid would accumulate in the resulting cavities which could lead to irregular scarring with knots and dents.

Moderate pain is expected during the first days after surgery. These are to well managed with cooling and oral painkillers. The most significant swelling and bruising of the skin regresses within the first two to three weeks. Initially, the result is obscured by the swelling. Therefore, the result is estimated after six weeks. As is often the case, that the final result is only visible after six to nine months.

The stitches are removed after a week. Initially, the sutures are still red and visible. After some time, they become pale and inconspicuous.

You should wear your compression underwear consistently for the first six to eight weeks. Otherwise, the cavities created by the suction can fill up with wound fluid or dissolved fat. This would lead to irregular scarring with unsightly contours or even knots.

How quickly you can work again depends on the extent of the procedure, your individual disposition and, of course, on your professional activity. The first two to three days you should definitely indulge in the necessary rest and tranquility.

You can so sport again after four to six weeks. Cooling, lymphatic drainage and light massages usually help swelling ot recede.

Swelling, moderate pain and bruising are to be expected. A change in touch sensitivity and numbness are possible, but usually disappear within a few weeks. If the compression garment is not worn consistently, or if there is a corresponding individual disposition, hematomas and fluid retention may remain in the wound which could then lead to hardening or dents.

Only rarely are these unwanted consequences permanent and require a minor correction operation. A genetic predisposition or too long immobilisation can lead to thrombosis or embolism. This can also be counteracted by consistently wearing compression garments. Infections are extremely rare and usually respond well to antibiotics. To maximize your safety, we attach great importance to regular follow-up and checking after surgery.
